Rachel Luria
Rachel Luria published her book of short stories and character studies, "Modne Menshn," in 1918
Not a great deal is known about her life except for a few facts gleaned from her obituary published in the "Jewish Morning Journal" on January 28, 1929.
She wrote for that publication for twelve years before her death at the age of 47. She was born in Worzhan, Lithuania, and she had also worked in clothing shops and as a nurse.
"Modne Menshn," "Strange People" is, indeed, filled with strange people:
A man who tortures his unfaithful wife with a dollar bill
A poor man who dresses like a wealthy business man to beg door to door
A joke that ends up in a marriage proposal and a suicide
A bibliophile who finds himself living in herring hell
And many more...
